While there are many spiritual lessons that you can sink into, learning how to ride the waves of life is at the top of the list!
Because CHANGE is the one definite in life. And because these times aren’t for the weak.
My Akashic Transformational Mentorship client, Leslie (name changed for privacy), has been working through several topics since we began last year. She’s a 2 in the Enneagram (one of the systems I utilize for my clients), which means she learned that love meant putting everyone else first.
She’s a single mother with an autistic 16-year-old daughter and an on-the-spectrum 21-year-old son, who’s constantly navigating the moods of others. When they’re doing great, she’s doing great. But when their world turns upside down, so does hers.
She lives at the mercy of everyone else’s well-being, which is no way to live! But of course, this is her choice.
However, as this is one of the main lessons she’s learning in this lifetime, it’s not an easy one. She’s lived many lifetimes serving others, bending to their will, and her soul is intent upon shifting out of these old energies in this lifetime.
In that, we’ve begun heavily focusing on riding the waves. Learning how to maintain an equilibrium when things are up or down. Choosing to be emotionally detached enough to make herself the first priority. And steadily working towards an embodied understanding that this old behavior doesn’t serve her any longer.
The thing is, when we’ve lived multiple lifetimes in similar energy, experiencing similar lessons, then it’s MUCH harder to shift out of those energies when the time comes.
And the time ALWAYS comes.
This is the journey of the soul and why we incarnate to begin with!
When you learn how to manage life’s ups and downs from a place of power, you transform your entire experience. You realize that life is not good or bad, it simply IS. You realize that you can maintain a consistent state of peace regardless of what’s happening in or around you. And you take life by the reins!
Remember, YOU are in control of your experience. YOU are the main character of your story. YOU determine how your experience is shaped and how its navigated.
And YOU have the power to create something EPIC.
How to ride the waves of life:
Become aware of your reactions. Awareness is always the first step towards change. How do you react when things fall apart? How do you react when things go right? Pay attention to how your mind reacts, your body feels, and the stories you create when these things take place. Notice if you go into victim mentality or believe nothing “bad” will ever happen again.
Once you’ve become aware, start questioning your reactions. Is it possible to not go overboard with believing life will always be good or that you’ll never get out of a situation? Is it possible to temper your reactions? Can you shift your perspective from judgment to acceptance - meaning, can you say, “This simply IS”?
To clarify, I’m not asking you to minimize your excitement, but I am asking you not to be overly zealous in what that excitement means or attach meaning to it. For example, you get a huge raise at work — AWESOME, celebrate it! But if you catch yourself thinking, “I’ll never have to worry about money again!” then it’s time to re-evaluate. Life is NEVER consistent.
Get clear on your mindset. Where do you tend to go overboard or underboard? Again, get clear on the stories you tell yourself. Since your mind is fully responsible for your experience, it’s time to reel it in! If you catch yourself in fear or limiting beliefs, write them down and then question whether they are real. Doing so can assist in clearing them out!
Determine what a solid foundation looks like for you. Your definition is going to be different than mine. But for me, my solid foundation looks like focusing on the things that bring me back to myself—good sleep, nourishing food, exercise, journaling, prayer, activities that light up my inner child (dancing, hiking, etc), and more! When you know what YOUR solid foundation looks like, you can lean on it NO MATTER what is happening in life!
Lean into your solid foundation practices when life is “good” or “bad”. Now, I’m only using those extremes because I know it’s still where your head is at. But remember, NOTHING is good or bad, it simply IS. When you make these practices a part of your everyday life, they become part of Who You Are, and that makes you UNSHAKEABLE.
When my last relationship ended, I leaned into my solid foundation HARD, and it brought me back to myself in a stronger way than before.
When my business is booming and I’m bringing in lots of clients, I’m THANKFUL in a grounded way because I know it’s going to ebb and flow.
My solid foundations aren’t just for when life is tough, they are constantly wrapped into my everyday so that I EXIST in them, and can navigate waves with control.
My beautiful client Leslie has a LOT on her plate, but she signed up for it, which means she can handle it! And she’s learning how to do so by noticing the waves, not judging them, and determining which practices are most helpful in navigating them.
How can YOU ride your waves?
